Faith-Based Organizations
Recognizing the value that spiritual development has in the life
of a child, faith-based mentoring can be a powerful model. In faith-based
mentoring programs, mentors are recruited from their congregations
and are matched with mentees from neighboring schools or in their
own congregations. MMP’s Church Mentoring Initiative (CMI),
launched in 1996, is a network of more than 100 churches throughout
the state. The CMI Task Force facilitates mentoring activities in
the faith community including conferences, training workshops, and
networking opportunities with other mentoring ministries.
The concept of mentoring is a simple one, but mobilizing communities
and recruiting mentors takes a continuous flow of creative energy
and commitment. Contact MMP for information, referrals and assistance
in starting a program, getting connected to an existing one, hosting
special youth activities, technical support on sustaining relationships
or just learning more about how mentoring works.
