How to become a Mentor

Mentoring opportunities in Maryland are abundant and there are numerous programs seeking mentors for elementary, middle and high school-age youth. However; to become a mentor, you must first take stock and consider your own interests, skills and availability. Your own life experiences in learning and working with others are necessary qualifications, along with being caring, consistent and committed to helping a young person achieve his or her potential. Also remember, mentoring is a two-way street; you have just as much to gain as the young person you’ll be helping.
