Start a Program
Before You Start a Mentoring Program, Consider...
-
Why should this organization be thinking about starting
and managing a mentoring program?
-
Why is this program needed?
-
What do we need to know to develop a mentoring program?
-
Is volunteer support available?
-
What is the investment? (staff and on-going management)
-
What kind of internal support is needed from board
of directors, executive director, and organizational
staff?
-
To what extent is there internal support from board
of directors, executive director, and organizational
staff?
-
What do I need to know about volunteer program administration?
YOU SHOULD ALSO CONSIDER:
-
Needs assessment (are other agencies doing a similar
program; if yes, can I partner with them?)
-
Do I need a partner?
-
What is my mission statement?
-
What are the goals and objectives of my program?
-
Who is my target population?
-
What role would I like the mentors to play?
-
How much time will I ask volunteers to commit to?
-
How will I evaluate the program?
